Explanation using Example

Example 1:

Ravi, a known criminal, breaks into Mr. Sharma's house at night with the intention of kidnapping Mr. Sharma's daughter, which is an offence punishable with imprisonment for life. Ravi is caught by the police while still inside the house. Under Section 450 of the Indian Penal Code, Ravi can be punished with imprisonment for up to ten years and may also be fined for committing house-trespass with the intent to commit an offence punishable with life imprisonment.

Example 2:

Sunil, who has a history of violent crimes, unlawfully enters Mrs. Gupta's house with the intention of committing murder, an offence punishable with life imprisonment. Mrs. Gupta manages to alert the neighbors, and Sunil is apprehended before he can carry out his plan. According to Section 450 of the Indian Penal Code, Sunil can be sentenced to imprisonment for up to ten years and may also be subjected to a fine for house-trespass with the intent to commit an offence punishable with life imprisonment.
