Example 1:

Ravi and Suresh have a heated argument over a property dispute. In a fit of rage, Ravi picks up a heavy iron rod and strikes Suresh on the head with the intention to seriously harm him. Suresh falls unconscious but survives the attack. Ravi's action, if it had resulted in Suresh's death, would have been considered culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Therefore, Ravi can be charged under Section 308 of the Indian Penal Code for attempting to commit culpable homicide.

Example 2:

Priya and her neighbor, Meena, have been having ongoing disputes over a boundary wall. One day, Priya, in a moment of extreme anger, pushes Meena off the terrace of a two-story building. Meena suffers severe injuries but does not die. Priya's act, done with the knowledge that it could potentially cause death, falls under the purview of Section 308 of the Indian Penal Code.
