Explanation using Example
Example 1:
Rahul encourages his friend, Amit, to steal a loaf of bread from a local bakery because Rahul wants to teach the bakery owner a lesson for being rude. Amit, however, steals the bread with the intention of feeding his hungry family. According to Section 110 of the Indian Penal Code, Rahul will be punished as if Amit had stolen the bread with the same intention as Rahul, which is to teach the bakery owner a lesson.
Example 2:
Priya persuades her colleague, Suresh, to hack into their company's database to retrieve some personal emails because Priya wants to blackmail their boss. Suresh, however, hacks into the database with the intention of exposing the company's unethical practices. Under Section 110 of the Indian Penal Code, Priya will be punished as if Suresh had hacked the database with the intention of blackmailing the boss, which was Priya's original intention.
