The Indian Institutes of Information Technology Act, 2014

The Indian Institutes of Information Technology Act, 2014 was enacted with the aim of establishing and incorporating Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) in the country. The Act provides for the declaration of certain institutions of national importance as Indian Institutes of Information Technology, and also for the establishment and incorporation of new IIITs. The Act specifies the powers and functions of the IIITs, and also lays down the process for their governance and administration. The Act also provides for the funding and financial management of the IIITs, as well as for the regulation of their academic programs and research activities. In addition, the Act establishes the Indian Institutes of Information Technology Council, which is responsible for the overall management and coordination of the IIITs.
