Explanation using Example
Imagine a scenario where John, a 30-year-old man, has a girlfriend named Lisa who is a sex worker. John does not have a job and relies on the money Lisa earns from her clients to pay for their living expenses. The police become aware of Lisa's activities and during their investigation, they find out that John is fully aware of how Lisa earns her money and has been living off her earnings for the past year.
Under Section 4 of The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, John could be charged because he is over eighteen and knowingly lives off the earnings of Lisa's prostitution. If convicted, John could face imprisonment, a fine, or both. Moreover, if Lisa were a child or a minor, the punishment for John would be even more severe, with a mandatory minimum imprisonment term.
