The Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Prevention and Control) Act, 2017

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Prevention and Control) Act, 2017 was enacted to provide legal and institutional framework to safeguard the rights of people living with HIV and AIDS, and to prevent and control the spread of HIV and AIDS in India. The act aims to provide for informed consent, confidentiality, non-discrimination, and access to treatment and support services for people living with HIV and AIDS. The act also mandates the establishment of various institutions and mechanisms to implement its provisions, including the State and Central AIDS Authorities, Anti-Retroviral Therapy Centers, and the HIV and AIDS Ombudsman. The act also provides for penalties for any violation of its provisions.
