Summary

The Himachal Pradesh and Bilaspur (New State) Act, 1954 was enacted to provide for the establishment of the state of Himachal Pradesh and to make consequential provisions for the new state. It repealed the provisions of the Government of Part C States Act, 1951, and the Bilaspur (New State) (Administration) Order, 1950. The Act provided for the formation of the new state of Himachal Pradesh by merging the hilly areas of the states of Punjab and Bilaspur. The Act also laid down provisions for the Governor and the Legislature of the new state, the High Court, the Public Service Commission, and other administrative and legal matters.
