Imagine John, a factory worker, has been employed for 15 months before he had an accident at work. To calculate his monthly wages for compensation, his employer would look at the total wages John earned in the last 12 months. If John earned a total of $24,000 in that period, his monthly wages would be calculated as $24,000 divided by 12, which equals $2,000 per month.
