Summary
The Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement) Act, 1954 was enacted to prevent misleading advertisements of drugs and magic remedies which might have harmful effects on the health of the general public. The Act defines the term 'drug' and 'magic remedy' and prohibits the advertisement of such drugs and remedies for certain diseases and disorders. The Act also prohibits the advertisement of drugs and remedies claiming to cure certain diseases without scientific proof. The Central Government is empowered to appoint an Advertisements Council to scrutinize the advertisements of drugs and remedies.
