Summary

The Delhi Development Act, 1957 was enacted to provide for the development of the National Capital Territory of Delhi and its surrounding areas, to make better provisions for the planned development of Delhi, and to control the development of the area to avoid haphazard growth. The Act empowers the Delhi Development Authority to acquire land for development, to make regulations regarding land use, and to prepare and implement development plans. The Act also provides for the appointment of a Commissioner for the National Capital Territory of Delhi and for the creation of the Delhi Municipal Corporation.
