The Collection of Statistics Act, 2008

The Collection of Statistics Act, 2008 was enacted to provide for the collection, compilation, and dissemination of statistical information relating to the social, economic, and other activities of the people of India. The Act provides for the appointment of a Central Statistical Authority and State Statistical Authorities responsible for the collection of statistical data. It also empowers the government to collect data from individuals, organizations, and other entities, and penalizes non-compliance with the provisions of the Act. The Act is aimed at ensuring accurate and reliable statistical data for policy formulation and decision making in various sectors of the Indian economy.
