The Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015 provides for allocation of coal mines and vesting of the right, title and interest in and over the land and mine infrastructure together with mining leases to successful bidders and allottees with a view to ensuring continuity in coal mining operations and production of coal.

Summary

The Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015 was enacted to provide for allocation of coal mines and vesting of the right, title and interest in and over the land and mine infrastructure together with mining leases to successful bidders and allottees with a view to ensuring continuity in coal mining operations and production of coal. This Act applies to all coal mines in India except the coal mines that are allocated by the Central Government to any Government company or corporation or their joint ventures. The Act provides for the appointment of a designated custodian to manage the affairs of the coal mine in certain situations. The Act also provides for the constitution of an Inter-Ministerial Committee to facilitate the auction of coal mines. This Act repealed The Coal Mines (Nationalisation) Act, 1973.
