The Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, 2010

The Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, 2010 is an Indian law act that aims to provide compensation to victims of a nuclear incident, as well as to ensure that the operator of a nuclear installation is held liable for any damage that may arise from a nuclear incident. The Act lays down the procedures for filing claims for compensation, the powers and functions of the Claims Commissioner, the limitations on the liability of the operator, and the establishment of a Nuclear Damage Claims Commission. The Act also provides for the establishment of a Nuclear Liability Fund to provide for compensation in case the liability of the operator exceeds the prescribed limit. The Act applies to all nuclear installations in India, as well as to nuclear incidents occurring outside India if they cause damage within India.
