Explanation using Example
Imagine John, a 45-year-old software engineer from Canada, has been living and working in India for the past 10 years. He has embraced Indian culture, speaks fluent Hindi, and wishes to become an Indian citizen. John is not an illegal migrant and is of full age and capacity. He decides to apply for Indian citizenship through naturalization.
He submits his application in the prescribed manner, along with evidence of his qualifications under the provisions of the Third Schedule of The Citizenship Act, 1955. This includes proof of his residency for the required number of years, proficiency in a language recognized in the Indian Constitution, and good character.
The Central Government reviews John's application and, satisfied with his credentials and contributions to India's tech industry, grants him a certificate of naturalisation. Following this, John takes the oath of allegiance as specified in the Second Schedule of the Act. With the oath taken, he becomes an Indian citizen by naturalisation from the date the certificate was granted.
