The Central Agricultural University Act, 1992 was enacted to establish and incorporate a university in the field of agriculture and allied sciences, and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. The Act provides for the establishment of the Central Agricultural University (CAU) which is a multi-campus university with its headquarters in Imphal, Manipur. The university is responsible for teaching, research, and extension education in the field of agriculture and allied sciences. The Act also lays down the constitution, powers, and functions of the university, as well as the composition and functioning of its authorities and bodies. The Act further provides for the appointment and terms of service of the Vice-Chancellor, officers, and other employees of the university, as well as the procedure for disciplinary action against them. It also provides for the regulation of the university's finances and accounts, and the manner in which its accounts are to be audited. Additionally, the Act confers certain powers and duties upon the Visitor, who is the President of India, with respect to the university.
