The Bombay Reorganisation Act, 1960

The Bombay Reorganisation Act, 1960 was enacted to provide for the reorganisation of the State of Bombay into two separate states, Maharashtra and Gujarat. The Act established the boundaries of the two states, provided for the separation of assets and liabilities, and defined the powers and functions of the new state governments. The Act also made provisions for the transfer of civil servants, judges, and other officials between the two states, as well as for the establishment of a High Court for each state. The Bombay Reorganisation Act, 1960 aimed to address the linguistic and cultural differences within the State of Bombay and to create two separate states that were better suited to the needs of their respective populations.
