The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956 is an Act of Parliament that establishes the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, India. The Act provides for the constitution of AIIMS as an autonomous institution of national importance and empowers it to develop patterns of teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in all its branches so as to demonstrate a high standard of medical education in India. The Act also provides for the appointment of the Director and other officers of AIIMS and outlines their duties and functions. It further lays down the powers and functions of the Institute's governing body, the Institute Body.
